Note: I accidentally saved the “last post” as a draft, so it may or may not appear after this one depending on where you are viewing from. Ok, there’s more to that last post. While I’ve been doing all of my runs and most of my strength workouts, and being generally active with ringette and biking and snowboarding, what I have not been doing is eating well. I have 0...

W3D2 half training
Did 6k tonight in 41 mins. Had a bit of a wardrobe malfunction tonight so I will be heading home instead of the gym. I’ll make up the strength session tomorrow. I’m slightly concerned about this discomfort I’m feeling in my knee. It felt fine while running tonight but any up and down stairs brings on some pain. Not sure what’s up with that.

No One Cares How You Run →
phdippides: I stumbled across this article while on Twitter today. It’s worth a read, and you might also substitute “eat” for “run” and get another worthwhile message. This, however, is not to say that you should avoid asking others for advice or seeking feedback. Just remember that we are all, “an experiment of one.” I like this article. Only thing is, unfortunately some people do care what...

W2D7 - Race pace?
After a bright and early photoshoot with a couple who’s wedding I’m shooting later this year, it was off to the gym. Schedule called for a 5K at race pace, and I wanted to to some strength training too. I did the 5K in 31 mins. That’s a 6:12/km pace: a little fast for a half marathon race pace, although it sure would be nice to keep that up for 21.1K. I’m having trouble...

W2D6
My LSD was on the agenda today. All day I tried to psych myself up for it. It has been so windy outside all day I really didn’t think an outdoor run was in the cards, but 10K+ on the treadmill just sounded so …not cool. All day I made excuses, all day I said later, all day I wondered if I could actually fit it into my busy day tomorrow. Around 8:30pm I told myself to suck it up and...

Being the good girlfriend I am, I’m at my boyfriend’s hockey game watching him play. They always play on Rink 3. Seating for rink 3 is directly beside the deep fryer. Why must life torment me so??

W2D3 - Tempo Run
So I just completed my first official tempo run as per my training plan. Total distance of 3 miles in 30 minutes. 10 min warm up 15 min tempo 5min cool down  I’ve done runs before that I’d consider tempo runs but weren’t actually part of a training plan so I wasn’t too worried about them. Anyways, I’m looking for advice on how you know if you’re going hard...

4 things I did well today
1. Ran 5K, even though it went horribly and I wanted to quit after 2K. 2. Went to the gym and lifted some weights, basically like a boss. 3. Healthy protein smoothie for breakfast. 4. Tracked all of the foods, even though there were some bad choices, and too much of a good thing included in there.

W1D4 - aka the run that reminded me of the...
Tonight’s run was the absolute worst run I’ve had since the hot days of summer. I ate too many sweets and treats this afternoon, and I payed for it. I felt horrible, I had a headache, I got cramps, I had to walk, I had no energy (this was probably compounded by giving blood for the first time last night), and it just all around sucked. I’ll chalk this up to a friendly reminder...

I read this book, The Long Run, a couple of months ago. It’s the story of runner, Ironman and Firefighter, Matt Long, and his long and amazing recovery after being hit by a bus while on his bike, on the way to a training swim. This book, Matt’s words really, motivated me to finally go and give blood. Something I’ve been meaning to do for a few years, but had a few concerns I...

4 things I did well today
1. I ate a healthy and delicious breakfast. OK, it was prepared by my love, but I ate it like a champ! 2. I ran a good paced 5K with the work crew. 5K in just over 31 mins. 3. I went to FitWall class, and brought along my Valentine for date night at the gym! 4. I handled a work situation, that had has me fairly irritated, calmly and professionally. Part of why I was able to remain clam about it...

Half Training W1D1
The time has come, back on that training grind! I must admit, I’m excited to be back on a real plan with a finish goal in mind. I’ve kept a plan all winter, but without a solid end goal in mind, it was always much easier to do something else or cut it short. So W1D1 calls for a stretch and strengthen session, so I got down on the floor with my yoga mat, foam roller, and some YouTube...

Do Life Challenge - week 6 recap
Well, week 6 of the Do Life Challenge is over, and I have to be honest, I didn’t find it to be very motivating. I really found it to be just doing more of the same, nothing new. With that said, here are the answers to the questions Ben asked in the submission thread: Did you push hard this week? Sure, I did over 6 hours of running, working out, and playing sport. As challenged at the...

4 things I did well today
1. I ran a nice 5.5K at a good pace, and despite the wind that picked up this afternoon, making me not want to go. 2. After the run I headed to the gym for fitWall class. 3. I emailed and checked in with my buddies. 4. My eating came in on daily points target today, even with a Starbucks and a few tortilla chips tonight. Moderation! Day 2/7 of being active for the week!

In the spirit of Do Life Challenge week 6, yesterday was not a “rest” day, but an active recovery day. The weekend was hard on my body, as of yesterday at noon, my obliques were screaming in pain with every step I took (dang side planks with row). So, I took it easy yesterday and ended the day with 20 minutes of stretching before bed. It always feels so good, it’s always what I...

Do Life Challenge - Week 5 recap
Today marks the end of week 5, which also officially ends the buddy challenge, although I have every intention of keeping in touch with my buddies, if they’ll have me :) The buddy challenge was when Ben told us to find a random internet stranger, who also was in the challenge, and partner up. It turned out pretty awesome, and I ended up with 2 rad, encouraging, and motivational...
