I went to one of those Turbo Jam classes tonight. I pretty much hated every minute of it. I went because I need to keep my cardio going while I’m not supposed to be running much and the thought of spinning on the bike wasn’t really doing it for me tonight.
I checked out which drop in classes were going on at my gym and I thought this one sounded alright so I went, forgetting why I...

Toronto Women's Runs Half Marathon Race Recap
This was the race I was not supposed to run. Right up until 4 days before the race I wasn’t even sure what I was going to do. My options were, run the race and risk injuring myself further or don’t run the race and be depressed and wonder if I should have, or try to drop down to the 5K. Deep down, I think I pretty much knew I would do the half, despite everyone I talked to including my...

Not down, not up!
This new sports medicine clinic I’m visiting is within a fancy schmancy gym. This lady just came in with her gym clothes neatly hung on 2 hangers. Is this real life?
The 10 lb gain
I’ve gained 10 lbs in approximately 2 months or so.It was a bit of up and down, but I can generally think back to 2 months of making excuses. I’m going to write out my excuses here and then we’re going to note that these are not valid excuses and move on. I also want to note though, that I don’t feel that any one of these things alone is a deal breaker, it was the...
The last 3 days have been “what not to do before running a half marathon.” with this injury it’s really hard to be excited or positive headed into the race, but I’m trying. I also feel really fat headed into this race. Sigh.
Toronto Women's Runs Half Marathon Race Strategy
So, last Half, 3 weeks ago, I wrote out a huge long calculated strategy. And it all went to shit due to this injury. I’m sure you’ve heard but I have plantar fasciitis. So this time, I’m keeping my plan short and to the point and winging it on anything else because I know this race will not follow any plan, it will fully be dictated by my foot.
I took 2 full weeks off from...
Guys, where does one get a cowbell?
Hmm I usually visit my physiotherapist early in the morning, not after having had my feet in my running shoes all day. My apologies to him.
I have 7 working days left at my current job. It’s very bittersweet for me because as much as I am looking forward to the new challenges and growth ahead, I am angry about the circumstances that pushed me to make the decision to leave my job, and I am mostly sad about some of the awesome friends I will be leaving behind and seeing far less of. Especially my running crew.
Over the last 2...

Went to the gym tonight even though I really didn’t want to. I didn’t stay long, but at least I went.
I did about 12 minutes warm up on the spin bike followed by about 20 minutes of full body weights. I did 2 sets of calf presses and felt pain in my foot, so I called off the leg work and focused on upper body from there out.
I was am frustrated. But, I’m trying to just work...
Well it's not like I can run with my legs right...
So I went to the gym and worked the shit out of them.
30 mins on the stationery bike with 10 sets of 1min hill climbs. A bunch of squats and deadlifts with the kettlebells. Also did a whole bunch of upper body weights.
The foot was taped and felt good. There were a few things I didn’t do that I normally would have because the foot is supposed to be resting including lunges, plank, pushups,...
So I don’t think I’ve actually said this yet. I’m injured.
Let’s be honest here, I’ve been injured for a while, but after the 10K 2 and a half weeks ago my plantar fasciitis went from manageable to injury status. I cut back my running for 2 weeks which led me into the Half Marathon, and followed all of my physiotherapists orders (which is perhaps another story for...
Last night Dave mentioned he should probably start doing some running for that 5K we are doing soon, as he hasn’t run since last year when we did the race. He asked me to make a training plan for him. When I actually looked at the calendar to plan it out I realized it’s just over 3 weeks away.
The annoying part is, he’ll still kick my ass.
Whatever, I’m making him do...
