30 Day Running Challenge! Day 17
How many miles (I’m switching this to km cuz I’m Canadian yo!) a week are you usually running and what’s your normal pace? How would you like to improve this?
Well, currently, because of my injury, I’m only doing about 12-15K/week and I am instructing a clinic of beginner runners so our pace averages around 7:45/km.
2 or 3 month ago before injury got the best of me I was...

30 Day Running Challenge! Day 16
Do you carry water or powerfood with you while running? If so, how and what kind?
I don’t usually carry anything with me for runs under 10K, unless it’s very hot, then I’ll bring some water, usually in my handheld.
On runs at 10k+ I’ll often wear my fuel belt, even though I don’t really like wearing a belt. I’ll usually fill 2 bottles with water and 2 with...

That awkward moment when you’re at your massage appointment and realize you forgot to wear underwear because your shorts have built ins. This is going to be embarrassing.
30 Day Running Challenge! Day 14
What was your favorite race you’ve run? If you haven’t raced, what are you most looking forward to with racing?
My favourite race was probably my first half marathon last October, the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. I loved it because it was my first. I went through all the training, I had all the nerves, I went through all the unknown, and I proved to myself I could do it!
The race...
30 Day Running Challenge! Day 13
Have you ever been injured because of running? How?
Yes, if you’ve been following along you know that I’m currently injured. I’ve been dealing with plantar fasciitis for at least 6 months. I’m really starting to wonder if there’s something more to it though, I think I might request an xray. There’s been about 13 weeks of PT, 3 different treatment plans,...
30 Day Running Challenge - Day 12
How has running changed you or your life?
This could be a really deep and meaningful post, but I’m going to keep it light and to the point.
Helped me lose 50 lbs
Made me feel better in my day to day life
I’ve met lots of awesome people through running
It’s taught me that I can set my mind to some pretty tough goals and achieve them
It’s hurt my foot
Given me...
Warrior Dash Ontario Race Recap
Yes, yesterday Dave and I went out and did the Warrior Dash. As I mentioned in a post, I signed up in a moment of go-for-it-ness, when I was feeling really determined to step out of my comfort zone and do things that I normally wouldn’t. Come yesterday, I was scared, very scared.

I had my 5K clinic run in the morning, and Dave had a wedding rehearsal, so we got going around 11:30...

30 Day Running Challenge! Day 10
Where do you run: treadmill, street, track, trail? And why do you prefer running there?
Most usually I do street or paved trail runs. That’s what is most convenient for me living in the city, but not necessarily my favourite.
My favourite would probably be trail running, even though I find it more difficult. It’s nice to be in nature, surrounded be trees, in quite atmospheres, alone...

30 Day Running Challenge! Day 9
What’s the strangest or most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you on a run?
Well, this is embarrassing, but don’t even act like it’s never happened to you. My most embarrassing moments revolve around stomach issues while running and having to bust into a random establishment desperate to use the bathroom, no purchase necessary.
So a few months ago I was really on this kick about stepping out of my comfort zone and just going for it! Doing Life, if you will.
Today I pay for those moments of insanity. Today I Warrior Dash.
I’m partially kidding, I’m kind of excited! Although fairly anxious mostly for the unknown factor.
It’ll be fun I’m sure. Or something.
I’ll update later, now I must...

30 Day Running Challenge! Day 7
Who supports you the most with your running goals and why do you pick them?
I’d have to say my boyfriend is my biggest supporter. He comes to almost every race I do to cheer me on and take my picture! He often asks how running is going and how my clinic days go with the group I am instructing. He “brags” to friends about my runs and I can tell is genuinely proud of me. It feels...

30 Day Running Challenge! Day 6
To you, what’s the hardest thing about running?
Pushing through in the heat. The heat really gets to me even when I’m not running. I get heat rash, prickly skin, etc., so add running in the mix and I’m a real hot mess. Literally. This summer hasn’t been quite as bad, simply because with my injury I’m not running as much or as far, and certainly not training, so no need to...

30 Day Running Challenge! Day 5
What’s your favorite distance to run or race and why?
I’m really honestly not sure that I have a favourite. I’m torn between the 10k and Half distance for races. If I’m just headed out for a casual run I’d say I like the 8-10K distance. But for a race I’m torn, so instead of picking 1, here’s my top 3 race distances and why.
5K - I like racing this distance...

30 Day Running Challenge! Day 4
Tell us about your first race or when you plan to start!
The first race I really remember doing was the Achilles St. Patrick’s Day 5K run in Toronto in 2004. I have this very very vague memory of possibly doing some sort of organized walk or maybe run a few years before that, but I remember nothing about it, so we’ll go with the St. Patrick’s Day 5K.
A group from work was...
30 Day Running Challenge! Day 3
What ultimate running goal would you like to accomplish? Well, I can’t lie, the marathon has piqued my interest. I’m not sure when it will be, because it’s obviously a big commitment, but one day.
Earlier this year I was seriously considering finding a destination marathon in December or January and signing up. I’m sure glad I didn’t though with my injury basically...

30 Day Running Challenge! Day 2
Why did you continue to run?
Let’s talk since I’ve really gotten back into running in 2010. There are a number of things that keep me going.
The friends I’ve made and people I’ve met.
The way running makes me feel. I feel stronger, happier, healthier!
My body WANTS to run. It craves it.
I’ve recently been able to share my love of running with others and get them...
30 Day Running Challenge! Day 1
When did you start running and why?
When I was in my last year of highschool, my then boyfriend and I joined the gym and really got into a routine of going together and getting in shape. It was fun! I was really getting into fitness and started buying Shape magazine all the time.
It must have been spring of 1999 or 2000, there was an article in Shape outlining a learn to run program. I thought...

I just finished my first shockwave therapy treatment on my foot. For the first time in weeks, maybe months, I feel like I may actually be able to get past this injury!
I went into the office with the pain at about a 5-6 when walking and an 8-9 when she would push on the spot. She hit me with the shockwave and I left with no pain when walking and about a level 1-2 when she’d push on just a...

I made the mistake of looking at today’s WOD online before heading out to crossfit. Let’s just say I’m hoping to fall down the stairs on my way out. Burpees. Lots of them.
So have I mentioned how much my arms hurt today!? Yesterday’s WOD called for as many kettlebell swings as I could do in a total of 6 minutes. I managed 71.In between each minute of KB swings, was a minute of rowing.
Did I also mention is was with a 35 lb kettlebell? Had I been on my own at the gym, I would probably have grabbed a 15, maybe 20 lb kettlebell. I continue to be amazed...
two-o-nine asked: How are you enjoying CrossFit? I really want to try it, but am afraid - even though I strength train 3 days a week + running. It just looks so INTENSE. Thoughts?

What’s up for this week:
Monday: rest day (dog walks)
Tuesday: crossfit
Wednesday: run club 3.5k
Thursday: crossfit and physio
Friday: yoga and/or gym session
Saturday: run clinic 5k
Sunday: run club 4k
I got the OK this week from my PT to give a 5k run a try after running no more than 3 at a time for the past 6 or 7 weeks. I was very excited but also scared it wouldn’t go as I hoped.
So this morning I did about 3.8k with my clinic, then went out for an extra loop on my own to finish off the 5k.
I’m a little unsure of how I feel about it. The pain remained low at a level 1-2 for most of the...
Apparently this morning’s breakfast was see-how-many-calories-you-can-fit-on-a-piece-of-toast. Get it together girl!
I just realized I’m less than 7 weeks from my 15K race, and I’m still on the injured list. I haven’t run more than 3K in a month (OK, ok I cheated once), and my PT doesn’t seem eager to be upping that any time soon.
This isn’t looking good. Will have to bring it up with her on Thursday and see what she says. Maybe I’ll do the minimum-running training method,...
