4 things I did well today

1. Photographed an engagement shoot this morning
2. Went to the gym and ran 5k as per the training plan, and lifted weights for 30 minutes
3. Called my mom
4. Had a ringette game, I got assists on 2 sweet goals

4 Things I Did Well Today

1. I tracked all my food and came in within my points
2. I ran a 30 min tempo run
3. I cooked cauliflower which I’ve maybe never done before
4. I went and watched my boyfriend’s hockey game

So part of the Do Life Challenge this week was to try 2 new foods. So here’s what I tried today. It’s Bibimbap. Now if Ben intended we try super healthy new foods, well I don’t know if this would qualify. However, for take out food, I think this isn’t too bad. Lots of veggies, some rice, a reasonable portion of meat and an egg. Most importantly, it was delicious!!!

Do Life Challenge - week 6 recap

Well, week 6 of the Do Life Challenge is over, and I have to be honest, I didn’t find it to be very motivating. I really found it to be just doing more of the same, nothing new. With that said, here are the answers to the questions Ben asked in the submission thread:

  • Did you push hard this week?
Sure, I did over 6 hours of running, working out, and playing sport. As challenged at the beginning of the week, I was active every day, including rest day, when I took part in active recovery by doing to stretching and light yoga. I was in a ringette tournament so running mileage was lower than usual, but activity was still there!

  • How about your buddy? Did you stay connected?
There were a couple emails and we kept up with each other on tumblr.
  • How have you improved since day one?
I’ve made strength training a regular part of my routine at this point, and I’ve gone from 1 pushup to 12 last check. I’ve also made a huge effort to try new things, and really take part in everything asked of us in this challenge, even if my initial reaction is that I don’t want to.
  • Any outstanding stories or news to share?
    Not really.
  • How did you do life?
Like I said, over 6 hours of activity this week. I;ve also been working on making changes in another part of my personal life i can;t talk about it quite yet, but hopefully soon!

Week 6 done, hopefully week 7 brings a little more motivation to the game.

4 Things I Did Well Today

1. I went to TRX class and gave it all I had.
2. I tracked all of my food today and came in on points.
3. I made a good choice at lunch today when out for a work lunch. Grilled veggie sandwich with mushrooms side! It was delish!
4. Big day tomorrow, in bed early tonight!

Today’s agenda:
  • pick up form at doctor’s office
  • pick up jug to pee in all day from lab (tmi?… meh)
  • work
  • run
  • eat dinner
  • ringette practice
  • read
  • sleep

Busy day, but definitely counts as being active day 3/7!

Do Life Challenge Week 5 - buddy workouts

As part of the Do Life Challenge we had to make up a workout and send to our buddies to do. In return, a custom workout created by our buddies for our very own pleasure!

Tonight I talked the workout sent from my buddy Melanie! It was just what I needed since I’ve had a pretty rough week and needed something I could do at home. It took about 17-18 minutes and I could do it all right beside my bed before hopping in for the night.

So here it is, I’ll keep it on hand for those days I don’t have time for much but feel like I need to do something!

1 minute of running
1 minutes of bicycles
1 minute of jumping jacks

10 squats
10 crunches
10 lunges
10 pushups

10 arm curls
10 arm lifts (arms are hanging relaxed next to body, lift arms stretched out until you reach shoulder height, now you will look like a big T, let them down again)
1 minute of air boxing

1 wall sit, hold as long as you can
5 bridge poses - hold for 10 seconds before laying back down again, rest for a few seconds before repeating (lay on your back, feet together, lift your hips until your legs make a straight line with your body and shoulders)
1 plank, hold as long as you can

10 pushups (I had to go modified on this one after just finishing plank!)
10 lunges
10 crunches
10 squats

1 minute of jumping jacks
1 minutes of bicycles
1 minute of running

This routine also got me 127/300 jumping jacks done for the week! Buddy workout #2, from Jess, is a little more involved so will be done on Sunday, possibly at the gym.

Looking back at January’s goals

I set the following goals for the month of January, as part of the Do Life Challenge. this is the part where I look back with them and comment on how I did!

1. Get my weight into the 100s - Well I’m still 2 lbs away from this, but I did lose 6.1 lbs this month, after a gain over the holidays, and I hit the milestone of 50 lbs lost, so I am happy with that!
2. Run 110 Km - Didn’t hit this one either. I clocked 76KM this month, which is a low for me since March 2011. However, I’m not exactly sure what I was thinking when I set this goal. in January I had 1 ringette tournament that took up my entire weekend, as well I increased other activities at the gym, and being January in Canada, I had to do a lot more treadmill running than usual. Treadmill does not equal long miles. I should have made this a minutes working out goal, I would have destroyed it!
3. Finish reading The Long Run - Done! Great book, very inspirational, and has made me decide I;m going to start giving blood, something I should have started long ago.
4. Journal something everyday - Done! I’ve been on this religiously, even if my entry for the day is as short as jotting down 4 things I’ve done well that day, it’s happening!
5. Visit the gym a min. of 3x/week - Done! As an average I made it to the gym 3x each week of Jan!
6. (added for the blog) keep up with the Do Life Challenge - Done! I haven’t necessarily been super excited about some of the challenges, but forced myself to do them, and ended up really enjoying them and getting something out of each and every one of them! On to February!

4/6 ain’t bad! With none that were complete give-ups or failures. January was a good month for fitness and fun!

4 things I did well today:
1. I ran 9.1K on the treadmill, which is a long treadmill run for me. I get so bored!
2. I did a lower body weights workout and felt strong!
3. I did some graphic design work for my boyfriend to help him get his site redesign launched today
4. I drank 64 oz of water, at least!

Doing Things Well Today

1. I went to the gym and had a great workout.
2. I called my mom.
3. I made good choices eating out for lunch today.
4. I tracked all of my food.
